I have mentioned in previous posts, Winter in Melbourne/Victoria is not a good time to photograph. Not only is there a constant threat of rain (even when it’s not forecast to), but it is also slightly chilly.
The cold makes me lazy and tired, especially now that I’m not currently working out. As a result, the cold pushes me to avoid going outside and photographing. If you consider that most of my photos are taken in an outside setting, the long 5 month slump that is brought by the wintery chill is really a period I struggle with photography.
This is one of the reasons I have started my Self-Portrait project. Even though so far I have done most of the photos indoors, due to my lack of enthusiasm towards being outside, I know that I will also take photos outside even during Winter.
Winter has also produced beautiful things so far. The light in the sunsets recently have stunning, but my back view is too obstructed for any really good photo to come out of it. Well, any really good photo to come out of it without Photoshopping the power lines out of the photos. This is one of the reasons I have been working on learning to Photoshop. I want to be able to make the most of the view that I have, without compromising the beauty of the image. I need to get better with working in Photoshop and Winter just may be the right time for it.
