This week was a “normal”. We are dog-sitting (again) at the moment, and having the dog around makes it a bit difficult to take photos of chickens. We can’t (yet) let the dog and chickens around each other, because the dog is very energetic (a mix of two different herding breeds) and in all his excitement would hurt (even kill) chickens by accident.
The Chickens
The chickens are not happy with having to be locked up all the time. They are get so excited when they see me, mostly because they will either get treats or be let out.
We are trying to desensitize the dog so they can be around the chickens. We tried hydro-therapy (‘squirt’ him with water when he got close to the pen) and now Dean is opening the pen and keeping in very close as dog barks and looks at the chickens. Slowly he will learn that he can’t go with so much enthusiasm towards the girls.
