A big part of portraiture is making sure the lighting is right. As such, I have invested in a decent set of speedlights, aka flashes. It came with 2 flashes and a remote to control them from my camera. It is a Yongnuo YN560IV and the appropriate transmitter.
So far, I have not had the opportunity to really use it, but will start training it on Dean (when he is in a good mood) to make me feel comfortable with using external flashes (which are better than the camera flashes). I am also reading a couple of book on flash photography: “The Flash Book: How to fall hopelessly in love with your flash, and finally start taking the type of images you bought it for in the first place”, by Scott Kelby; and “One Flash!: Great Photography with Just One Light”, by Tilo Gockel.
