Joy
1. a feeling of great pleasure and happiness;
Oxford Dictionary
2. a person or thing that causes you to feel very happy
The Joy project is a way to explore what makes people happy, what brings them Joy. It is a project that I enjoy a lot because it is an uplifting subject: people’s happiness. In this project, I will embark in a journey through people’s intimacies, where they will tell me and show me the subject of their Joy.
I believe you can tell a lot about a person by understanding what brings them Joy. To a mother, Joy might be having her whole family sitting around the dinner table, sharing a meal (same could be said about a father). To an IT professional, who spends most of his/her day in front of a computer, Joy might be reconnecting with nature in hikes or camping. To someone who is single, Joy might be meeting and connecting to different people. As such, we are not one thing, we have many facets and each of those facets may provide a different insight into ourselves. Our Joys will reflect that.
This page will document the project progress through the photos I take of people’s Joy and and personality.

Hristijana: The Joy of Cooking

Hristijana is a beautiful woman with so much happiness in her heart. She was the first person I contacted to participate in my Joy photo essay.
Cooking is what bring Hristijana Joy. She loves the opportunity to bring the family together around a table with the food she just cooked. Having migrated from the former Yugoslavia, today Macedonia, she brought her cookbook and her love for being around her family.

Jason: The Joy of Modelling

Jason is a soft hearted, brilliant man that pays a lot of attention to detail. He loves riding his Ducati motorcycle, but his Joy is building models of bikes, cars and airplanes.
In the session, he focused on the current model he is doing, a Ferrari 250 GTO 1962. So much detail going into making this car look like the real thing, but a fraction of the original size. He also showed me his World War I planes.

Caroline: The Joy of Plant Propagation

Caroline has a spontaneity and honesty which are so delightful that you spend an afternoon with her without even noticing time flying by. She is lovely to be around and I just have so much fun when sitting down for a wine and a chat.
Caroline’s Joy is plant propagation: making plants magically grow. She is a Business Analyst with a degree in accounting, but her’s is a green heart. With hits and misses, her garden doesn’t stop growing.
